ABOUT MY APPROACH TO MISSION STATEMENT OF PURPOSEFUL VISION

If there was such a thing as a 'Word of The Century', a likely candidate thus far for the 21st might be "CONTENT". Its meaning and usage continue to expand, and, as Americans, its one of the only things that the rest of the world expects us to make anymore. Content is culture. Content is communication. Content is, in a word, everything. But as a word, in the most literal sense,"CONTENT" is not great. And though I'm gonna keep talking about it, I don't want to type it anymore.

Do you know what is a great word, though?

Balloons.

So lets talk about balloons.

(In case you're confused, this is not analogy. I've literally just replaced the word 'content' below with 'balloons'.)

I love balloons. All types. I always have. The pleasure of making and enjoying different kinds of balloons is to some degree the only thing besides the humans in my life that I've ever truly loved. It's my profession and my hobby; the office and the golf course.

I've been lucky to be among a new generation of creatives that are not only allowed, but also now EXPECTED to make as many types of balloons as possible. The 'Millennial Creative Class', as economist Richard Florida calls it, is the first generation of vocational artists that is not required to specialize their balloon making. I think this adds enormous value to the process and potential of balloon-making. Skills and lessons learned in one field inform another; and often, this happens subconsciously.

If anything, this is the principle that's shaped my career thus far. If that kind of M.O. sounds interesting or useful to you and and your organization, don't hesitate to contact me.

Let's make balloons.
